250 kW Flywheel with HTS Magnetic Bearing for Industrial Use
نویسندگان
چکیده
A 250 kW / 5 kWh engineering prototype Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) was designed, fabricated and component tested by Adelwitz Technologiezentrum GmbH (ATZ) and L-3 Communications Magnet Motor GmbH (MM). A heavy – load vertical 0.6 ton rotor is suspended totally magnetically by an HTS radial-passive bearing on the top together with a PM bearing at the bottom. Further features are the flywheel rotor body which is manufactured from carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) in a multi-rim version and combined with an integrated high-power motor /generator. A 35 W/77 K singlestage Gifford McMahon cryo-cooler is cooling the HTS bearing to a temperature of 45 – 60 K. Functionality and efficiency of the magnetic bearing configurations, rotor control concepts and motor / generator power electric system is considered and established. Bearing stiffness parameters, damping performance, and rotational friction are measured. Testing of further components under vacuum conditions confirmed that low bearing drag and wearfree operation can be attained. The motor-generator operates with a power in excess of 250 kW and an efficiency of > 92%, including the losses of the inverters. A redundant mechanical touchdown bearing system can be activated to restore the rotor position. The separately tested flywheel components are now in the assembling status expecting first machine tests in November 2007. After studying and measuring all FESS parameters in –house the dynamical storage device will be tested in a German E.ON power station under industrial conditions.

متن کاملFlywheel energy and power storage systems
For ages flywheels have been used to achieve smooth operation of machines. The early models where purely mechanical consisting of only a stone wheel attached to an axle. Nowadays flywheels are complex constructions where energy is stored mechanically and transferred to and from the flywheel by an integrated motor/generator. The stone wheel has been replaced by a steel or composite rotor and mag...

We are developing a 50 kWh-class flywheel energy storage system as a national project, using a new axial superconducting magnetic bearing (Ax_SMB) technology. The project has started in FY2005 and will continue to FY2007. The Ax_SMB is composed of Fe core and superconducting coil, which are simply torus-shape. It generates strong restoring force in axial direction. It can realize non-contact le...
متن کاملDesign, Modeling and Control of Magnetic Bearings for a Ring-Type Flywheel Energy Storage System
This study is concerned with the magnetic force models of magnetic bearing in a flywheel energy storage system (FESS). The magnetic bearing is of hybrid type, with axial passive magnetic bearing (PMB) and radial hybrid magnetic bearing (HMB). For the PMB, a pair of ring-type Halbach arrays of permanent magnets are arranged vertically to support the rotor weight. For the HMB, a set of ring-type ...
